Fragrance and cosmetic scents sales form the backbone of the fashion industry. Designer scents with their sumptuous packaging and extravagant marketing spend a lot of their revenue as expenditure. The generally accepted fact is that just 10 to 15 percent of the retail price of the perfume represents the perfume itself, while the rest is profit.

But as things stand now, the perfume market is overburdened with celebrity scents and this has cheapened the perception of the market considerably. People have the feeling that there are too many celebrity fragrances, but the quality is not just there. This year alone we are going to see some 500 new launches.

At the same time some perfume manufacturers have identified this problem in the perfume market. They have started re-introducing some of their classic ingredients to attract people back to the market.
