Studies conducted by some researchers in Portugal have resulted in the development of a new type of microcapsule that is filled with perfume and which can be embedded in your clothing. This will reduce the foul smell that most of us are familiar and disgusted with.
The microcapsules are made with formaldehyde, which is a cancer causing agent and an environmental hazard. So the researchers are trying to find out a new chemical that can be used for making the microcapsule that is non-hazardous and environment friendly.
They have zeroed in on polyurethane-urea, a type of environmentally-friendly plastic that is environment friendly and compatible with fabric. On testing the new chemical, it is found to be showing good performance in terms of prolonged fragrance.

When you are wearing perfume, you may feel that you may need to reapply perfume. We have discussed Pulse Points on this blog before now, but Tipnut shares with us some great tips on wearing perfume:
“First rub in a dab of vaseline to the areas that you will be applying perfume to, then spray or dab on the perfume. The vaseline will moisturize the skin which helps hold the perfume longer than dry skin will.”
There is countless more tips on the blog, so I urge you to check them out!

A pioneering scheme has been undertaken in the Land of the Rising Sun. Users will be able to download perfume from the internet.
NTT Communications Corp in a trial run is asking 20 people to keep 16 aroma pots in their room. These pots can release their individual base smell from signals from a mobile phone. When users download music/video from NTT Communications WAP Internet Site, the aroma pods are triggered by the mobile phone, releasing a certain amount of fragrance. These scents can combine to form nearly 200 fragrances.
The trial starts tomorrow and due to last 10 days. If it takes off, it will be rolled out later this year.

…..at least in Turkey.
Yes, according to Turkish Daily News, 49% of men commissioned in a poll admitted that they wore perfumes, compared with just 46% of women. But how accurate is it? Are men becoming more effeminate.
Turns out maybe not, as according to the artilce:
Of the 6,274 men in cities over 15 questioned in the TGI Turkey survey, 35.5 percent of men consider aftershave a perfume, suggesting that scent is the important thing for men, whether in a perfume or an aftershave. The most widely used perfume brands are Adidas, Jagler, Axe, Calvin Klein, Nivea, Gilette Brut and Dunlop, Armani and First Class.
So, turns out deoderant is causing most of the stink. Neverthless an interesting survey!

In the production of perfumes, it has been found that more and more perfumes are being manufactured, rather than being based on natural ingredients.
There are a number of reasons why this is more desirable. For one these manufactured smells are by and large “perfect”. Each smell smells exactly the same as the other, and has longer shelf life. Smells from flowers and plants can vary from plant to plant.
The second reason is it’s more ecological. Instead of cutting down wide ranges of plant life and trees to obtain a smell, you can manufacture it in a laboratory for a fraction of the cost.
The final reason is commercial. You can patent each smell you find, which is impossible for plants and flowers. This patent can be licensed out to other perfumers at a later date.
However, it’s not a perfect method for commercial perfume, for one it takes a lot of time and money to research these new smells, but should you manufacture a sweet smell that’s popular, the benefits far outweighs the costs.

When applying perfume, it’s important to remember the pulse points on your body to maximise the use of it.
Your pulse points, if you cannot tell, are places on your body where you can feel your pulse. If you think about it, applying perfume to them works well as your heart beats, you disturb the perfume, which refreshes the fragrance.
The problem is that as your body gets used to the fragrance, it can make your skin more resistant to it. So, with that in mind, it’s a good idea to vary between your pulse points. Here are some of them:
- Behind your knees
- ankles
- wrists
- crook of your elbow
- cleavage
- the nape of your neck
Of course, if you have Eau Du Toilette then you would have to re-apply it every hour or so. Therefore, it’s a good idea to apply it before going out, after a bath or shower, in one of the pulse points that are not quite as dignified to access! When out, and you have your eau du toilette with you, you can easily apply it to your neck or wrists.
Another area that it is becoming increasingly popular to put perfume is on your hairbrush. Then, when you brush your hair, the perfume smells stick to your hair for the evening, and linger on throughout the evening.

As it’s nearly a week before Valentine’s Day, here are a list of facts for you:
- The average spend in the UK of Valentine’s Day Products is £65. Most of that goes on Perfumes and Fragrances.
- Over 1 Billion Valentine’s Day cards are sent (and I still don’t get one!). Surprisingly, Teachers receive the most, followed by children.
- Lace, a fabric associated with valentines day, is so named after Love And Romance.
- The heart is associated to Valentine’s Day as it is considered the source of all human emotions. The custom of drawing a heart shape is supposed to have come from early attempts to draw an organ that no one had seen. The symbol came on to become as a sign of love.
- In the Middle Ages young men and women drew the names from a bowl to see who would be their Valentine. They would wear this name pinned on their sleeves for one week. This was done so that it becomes easy for other people to know your true feelings. This was known as “to wear your heart on your sleeve”.
- In America, the pilgrims used to sent confections, such as sugar wafers, marzipan, sweetmeats and sugar plums, to their affianced. Lot of value was placed on these gifts because they included what was then a rare product, sugar. After the late 1800’s, beet sugar became widely used and more available, and sweet gifts continued to be cherished and enjoyed.

Wonder how you keep that nice bottle of Paul Smith Perfume fresh for as long as possible? Well, wonder no more as this article will give you basic tips on keeping your perfume smelling fresh like the day you bought it.
Keep It Out of Strong Heat and Light
A shady corner in the bathroom or inside a medicine cabinet is ideal place for keeping a bottle of perfume. Both the light and the heat can damage the colour and - therefore - the scent.
Keep Upright
Ever wonder why perfume bottles come in boxes? Well it’s to prevent it from shaking about too much. When you are not using it, keep it standing as it should. Plus the bottle looks a lot nicer.
Buy The Right Perfume
If you don’t wear much fragrance, choose one with a higher concentration of alcohol in it. Perfume with a higher percentage of alcohol lasts longer (by about 5-6months longer).

Perfume retailer “The Perfume Shop” has announced this year’s “Nose of the Year” Awards. The competition, which will be voted for by the general public, will culminate in an awards ceremony on February 7th in London. The nominees are:-
- Gok Wan,
- Ben Shepherd,
- Jeremy Edwards,
- Craig Doyle,
- Alan Sugar,
- Brian Dowling,
- Cheryl Cole,
- Melanie Sykes,
- Kate Middleton,
- Rachel Stevens,
- Denise Van Outen,
- Tina O Brien
The Perfume Shop Marketing Director, Julia Bolsom, commented,
“For us at The Perfume Shop, it’s people’s noses that get us excited! So we put our heads together and decided to start a campaign to really celebrate the nose – starting with our Nose of the Year Award! We asked staff across our 170 shops to select their favourite celebrity noses and now it’s down to the public vote!”
We Say: Seems to me to be a bit of a pointless exercise. For one, are we looking for somebody with the nicest looking nose? Or are we looking for somebody with the best sense of smell, only time will tell.
